It’s a four-plus billion dollar budget but, when it comes down to it, there’s really not a whole lot of money for Council to work with as they please. How much is available?

Around $200 million. That’s very little money for new projects. In this proposed budget, we honoured Council’s direction to focus on renewal and protect the infrastructure we’ve worked so hard to build. We have also committed to some transformative projects: the Yellowhead Freeway Conversion, LRT expansion and Blatchford. Much of the budget discussion will be around that $200 million in uncommitted money that’s available to fund new projects.

It’s important to remember that this budget includes two billion dollars in renewal projects — each of those is an opportunity to improve the day to day experience of Edmontonians by making sure infrastructure is in good repair and doing what we need it to do.
